National Art School - Etching Techniques

This class is designed for students of all experience levels. Students will have the opportunity to develop work on copper etching plates while building their skills and exploring a variety of techniques and processes.

Angus Fisher is a practicing printmaker who is skilled in using intricate, traditional techniques to represent the natural world. Angus is a graduate of the National Art School and is currently represented by Australian Galleries where he exhibits regularly. He has worked as an artist and teacher around Australia and as an archaeological illustrator in Greece. Angus is currently working towards an exhibition in Sydney as well as the creation of a limited edition series of books. Watch Angus producing his prints here.

Willoughby Art Centre - Copper Plate Etching

Over 9 weeks, gain an in-depth introduction to copper plate etching. Explore the unique and exciting range of results that are possible through the etching process and produce a series of prints based on your own imagery. Students will learn to create a diverse array of marks using a variety of processes as well as gaining an understanding of aquatints and more complex tonal effects. Students will have the opportunity to work at their own pace, creating then printing a number of works throughout the term. Please note this is a 1/2 day class running both in the morning (9am-12pm) and the afternoon (1pm-4pm)

No previous experience required – all skill levels welcome including beginners.

The Gosford Makers Studio - Copper Plate Etching

The course will provide an in-depth understanding of copper plate etching as you explore line work, tone & complex mark making using aquatint, sugar lift, spite bite and burnishing techniques. You will learn how to create, proof and refine your imagery over the six weeks!

No previous experience required – all skill levels welcome including beginners.
